I know resolutions tend to be BS and this time of year we are flush with them. I’m curious what people are trying for this year. Mine are reasonable, but also challenging.
1. Log 2018 miles of activity (walking or running) for the year.
Last year I did 1524 miles so it will be a manageable challenge, but I will be better for it.
2. Buy zero cars in 2018.
I know this sounds crazy, but last year I bought 5 cars... 2015 Mazda 3 Hatch, 1991 Mazda Miata SE, 1993 Mazda Miata (Parts Car), 2000 Mazda B2500 to flip, and my 93 Autozam was technically purchased last year.

I want to buy zero cars, and get my total net debt below $300k, this is everything, including the house and 2 cars, which take care of themselves somewhat, but I need to pay down other things, and not increase my debt. Not a massive goal, but big enough that it’ll be hard. So, really, not buying crap, and selling off other crap.

Organize my house
Get my 5k times back below 24 minutes
Volunteer at least once every other month.

Drink less, find a new job I don’t hate.

Resist urge to buy a car and instead buy a house.
Fish more, smoke less cigs and weed, moderate diet a bit better and loose weight not just maintain weight, save money and spend less, buy new shoes.

one of my good friends is a mud engineer in the field and she hates it, I hear about it a lot.

Those are some great 5k times, I’m hoping to get mine under 30 minutes. I’m also pushing 290lbs right now though. So losing weight will help me with that.

Take my car to the track.

I resolve to not die in 2018 and continue making incremental changes/improvements that I’ve always done.

Here, here. I’ll drink to that.

The field can be rough, I know that for sure.
I’m considering going back for a plethora of reasons.

Buy a (new to me) car, and get the damn transfer case rebuilt in the Willys.

My resolution last year was to lose 10 pounds. I’m now only 15 pounds away from reaching that goal, so I’ll stick with it this year.

Below 24 minutes? I hate you. :)

Less resolutions and more like plans
- buy a house
- run 4 races (all 1 mile with goal of faster than high school 4:44)
- take my daughter on a long(in duration not distance cause I’m guessing we will move slow) backpacking trip
- get the 996 road worthy for daily driving by May

I bought 7 cars in 2017 (only 4 for me though), my goal is to buy more :)
Oh and the usual losing weight stuff, if I manage to get to undr 100kg again, I’m ok with that.

I’m not really one for resolutions, but after last night’s fine beer it might just be to drink more bottle-conditioned sours. I think I also want to get in the habit of buying multiple bottles of ones I like and forgetting about them in a closet for a couple years to see how they age.

Hehe “volunteer” (reference to your name)

I’ve never really made new years resolutions in the past. My issue is that I have never really seen the reason to wait until the start of a new year to change a bad habit or start a good one.
However this year my goal basically revolves around reducing my debt also. In fact my personal goal is to be debt free by the end of 2018 not including our house, and hopefully stay that way going forward.

I tend to not do well with large, massive resolutions so this year I’m taking a month by month approach. The plan is to incorporate one new item or get rid of one bad habit each month, so that I’m gradually improving. For instance, in January I want to get back to the gym at least 3 times per week. In February, I’ll continue that but also incorporate a healthier diet, etc.
Car-wise, my goal is to reduce my number of cars from 3 to 2 by getting a reconstructed title for my flood totalled Civic, and then giving it to a friend or family member that needs a car. Everything works fine, it just had mildew issues that I’ve already addressed. PA requires an enhanced inspection to certify that it is road worthy.

1. Quit smoking
2. 100% timesheet completion (I’m REALLY bad at this)
3. Turn this weight I’ve gained into more muscle and less fat. I’m finally over 150 but not in the way I want
4. Get my wife healthy

Yeah, the resolution is really just thinking much harder about what I buy, what I need, and what I need to get rid of. It’s a change in priorities more than anything else. A new year is a nice time to think about these thigns because I can look back on the last year, and start a big winter cleaning of the basement and the associated stuff I’ve accumulated. What do I have, what do I actually use, what could I have done without, and what would I have liked better. That kind of thing. I’m not so much a giant spender as I am one that doesn’t thing about it enough at the time, so I end up with things I’m not so happy with.

I don’t make resolutions because resolutions are just goals that you set on a specific day and I despise goal setting of any kind.

Get the trailer hitch sitting in my garage installed on the Outback, buy a trailer, and use said trailer to haul off my ever increasing brush pile. Hopefully I’ll then be able to use it to buy and transport pair of ATV’s for myself and my daughter but I’m still working getting my wife to come around to that idea...

I found a really good program called burn the fat, feed the muscle. It’s a bit intense, but you will see fat loss results.

Personally I consider my resolution to be done paying down my debt this year, more of a “goal” because in all fairness I started around the middle of last year. Still starting this year I definitely plan to attack it with much greater intensity than I have in the past.
One of the things that I am changing sounds a lot like what you are doing too. I have always had a bad habit of trying to take on far too many projects and hobbies and I end up frittering away too much money on stupid little stuff. Then ultimately I never have time for most of those hobbies or projects anyway. So this year I am trying to take a hard look at the things that I genuinely enjoy and get rid of everything else. And I am only going to take on projects that I actually have the time and resources to finish.
For me it’s things like, why do I have a set of golf clubs taking up space in my garage when I haven’t actually played a round of golf in at least 5 years. The same could be said for my airsoft equipment, camping gear, skateboards, rollerblades(!), R/C cars, hockey sticks, and the list goes on.
I collect this crap just because I once did these things and maybe someday I might do them again. But realistically as often as I do things like golf or play airsoft, I could just as easily rent what I need and probably come out way ahead and not have a garage that’s filled to the brim.

1. Read 3 books
2. Be more fun (My wife and I decided to make up goals that sound like they could be from a 4 year old. Hers is eat more ice cream.)

“(all 1 mile with goal of faster than high school 4:44)”
I wish I can run that fast. I’m a sophomore in high school and can run a 6:15.

Run as many miles as you can and stay healthy. I don’t think I broke 6 until my freshman year but took a leap from sophomore to junior year from 5:45 to about 5:05.
Now I just get to rely upon decades of accrued fitness and muscle memory while fighting off age and the effects of a desk job.
